Project Background
An investor-owned utility in the Western United States engaged OMS Field Services, LLC (OMS FS) to pilot a new program to assess dead and dying tree and hazard trees as part of an integrated “Routine Patrol” methodology to assess if two separate programs could be combined into a single, integrated patrol to address routine vegetation management compliance requirements and also to reduce fire risk in high fire threat areas.
Scope
OMS FS staff were engaged to conduct a pilot program of new work methods and streamlined procedures for conducting routine vegetation management patrols and simultaneous enhanced tree risk assessments. OMS FS staff were asked to review existing hazard trees for accuracy of prior risk assessments and to identify new hazard trees as part of a “Routine Patrol” procedure. OMS FS Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ) foresters also evaluated efficacy of new work procedures and documentation requirements and identified process improvements that would enhance efficiency and reduce costs, while maintaining accuracy and defensibility of tree risk assessments.
